As I am sure many of you know, the opening game of the NFL was last Thursday (September 8). This game is being called "Super bowl: The Sequel" because it was between the Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers. It was an extremely close game. However, the main focus on this game was the quarterback matchup because Carolina had a veteran player (Cam Newton) at that position while Denver had a rookie (Trevor Siemian) playing for the first time. It was fun to watch this matchup.
Enough of this preliminary talk though. It is time to get to the recap. The first quarter started with Denver having position of the ball. Trevor Siemian had what looked like a good starting drive until it ended in an interception. From this point on the game started to turn in the favor of Carolina because Cam Newton came onto the field and lead his team on a touchdown drive. The second quarter was rougher for Denver, they only scored seven points to Carolina's ten. At halftime the score was Carolina seventeen and Denver seven. Nothing really happened in the third quarter, so I will not talk about it. Finally, the fourth quarter came around and with it came a turning point for the Denver team. The Broncos scored fourteen points in that final quarter thanks to a lot of good plays from their defense. The defense was getting sack after sack, and they got one interception. Denver's defense held Carolina to only three points in the fourth quarter. Denver ended up winning the game twenty-one to twenty.
Yes what an exciting way to start the season! This game had me sitting on the edge of my seat until the very last play.
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be nice having a general knowledge of whats happening in the world of football by reading your blog. It's crazy how close they were in points. I bet it was a pretty stressful game to watch.
