Week 8 Continued

Broncos and Chargers Game

The Denver Broncos and the San Diego Chargers faced each other again for the second time this year. The Broncos went into this game wanting a different outcome than what happened last time these two teams met a couple of weeks ago. This game came down to which team had the better defense because honestly neither offense really had a good showing in this game. This game was a perfect example of the saying that defenses win games/championships because it came down to a few key plays that Denver's defense made that made the difference in the game. Denver's defense intercepted Philip Rivers three times, and one of those interceptions was returned for a touchdown. It was this defensive touchdown by Bradley Roby that gave the Broncos' struggling offense some -momentum to rush for two touchdowns. The final score was Denver winning the game 27-19.

Here is a picture of Bradley Roby's interception in the game.

Week 8

Chiefs and Raiders Games

In Week 8 of the season the Chiefs went to Indianapolis where they played the Colts. This was a hard fought game for the Chiefs because in the middle of the second quarter their quarterback, Alex Smith, was injured and Nick Foles had to come out on to the field to finish the game at the position. This was a game that every Chiefs player wanted to win seeing how they all came out to play. First, the Chiefs defense did a great job intercepting Andrew Luck and forcing a fumble. Those two turnovers that the Chiefs got helped to secure a victory for the game. It also helped that Nick Foles came out and threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns. This was a phenomenal game and it shows that a well rounded team in a game can win. The final score was Chiefs up 30-14.

Here is a picture of the fumble that the Chiefs defense forced.

The Raiders played the Tampa Bay Buccaneers these week. This was another one of those close game this year, and it was yet another game this year to go into overtime. The main factor in this game was Derek Carr. He was on fire this week. He completed 40 of 59 passes and he threw for 513 passing yards. He also threw 4 touchdown passes. These are the numbers of an elite quarterback, and that is the factor that carried the Raiders away with win. The Raiders vetern quarterback managed to have more ease moving the ball compared to the Bucs second-year quarterback. The final score in overtime was the Raiders coming away with a 30-24 win in Tampa Bay.

SlideShow

Here is a Slideshow that is showing the different logos that each of the teams in the AFC West have had in the past.

Places in Topeka to get NFL Gear

There are many places in Topeka Kansas that sell NFL gear for the teams in the AFC West. A few of these places are Westridge Mall, Kmart, and Academy Sports. In Westridge Mall there are shops like Lids and Fans that sell nothing except for fan gear for many different sports. Kmart has some good deals on some NFL jerseys and shirts. And Academy Sports is a sports store that always has sporting equipment and fan gear. The stars on the map are the locations of these three stores.

Week 7 Continued

Chiefs and Broncos Games

The Chiefs won a close game this week against the New Orleans Saints. This win was due to the Chiefs quarterback, Alex Smith, having a good game with no turnovers. Smith threw the ball for 214 yards and two touchdown passes. The Chiefs offense did a good job not turning over the ball at all this week. The Chiefs defense also had a large hand in this win because of Daniel Sorensen's interception and return for a touchdown. Anytime a defense scores a touchdown it becomes even harder to beat that team because if both the offense and defense are scoring touchdowns then the score is going to get out of control for the other team. The Chief's defense also managed to get two interceptions and recover one fumble. These turnovers helped to keep the Saints' offense off of the field. I would say that the play of the game was the interception return for a touchdown by Sorensen. The final score of the game was the Chief's winning 27-21.

The Broncos did a good job snapping a two game losing this week against the Houston Texans. This game was full of drama due to the fact that the Texans quarterback, Brock Osweiler, was the Broncos quarterback last season and everybody thought that he would be back in Denver this season. So in a way this was a bit of a grudge match for the Broncos to show Osweiler that he made a bad decision leaving Denver. The Broncos played all round good football. Trevor Siemian passed the football for 157 yards and one touchdown, and C. J. Anderson ran the football for 107 yards and one touchdown. Then there was also the Broncos' defense that managed to recover two fumbles and sack Osweiler several times. The defense made it hard on Osweiler to do anything. They did a good job at keeping the Texans from scoring any touchdown the whole game. Overall, I would say that the rushing that came from C.J. Anderson is why the Broncos were able to win because he was able to find holes in the Texans defense and run the football up the field. The final score was 9-27 with the Broncos on top.

Week 7

Chargers and Raiders Games

In week 7 the Raiders played the Jacksonville Jaguars, and they did a good job bouncing back from their loss to the Chiefs last week. The Raiders were having success in every single area of play. They were rushing the ball well has a team they rushed/ran the ball for a total of 144 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Raiders also had success throwing the ball has well. Derek Carr completed 23 of 37 passes for 200 yards and one touchdown pass. However, it was not just the offense that had a good game because the defense came out to play this week. The Raiders defense did a great job stopping the Jaguars offense by getting two interceptions and one fumble. These three turnovers kept the Raiders offense on the field gaining momentum to get to the end zone. I would say that the player of the game would have to be Latavious Murray because he ran the ball for 59 yards and two touchdowns. The final score showed that the Raiders came to play and control the game. The final score was Raiders winning by 33-16.

In week 7 the Chargers were looking at continuing their winning streak from last week. They managed to do this in a tight game that went into overtime against the Atlanta Falcons. In this game the Chargers did a good job moving the football despite their offense turning the ball over two times. Philip Rivers threw the football for 371 yards, one touchdown pass, and one interception. The Chargers also managed to run the ball for only 78 yards and two touchdowns. The Chargers defense was mediocre, only getting one interception to help their offense out. It again came down to the Chargers' kicker, Josh Lambo because he kicked the winning field goal in overtime, which was a 42 yard field goal. This was a hard fought win for the Chargers, that continues their winning streak from last week. The final score was the Chargers winning 33-30.

Week 6 Continued

Broncos vs. Chargers

The other rivalry game this week in the division was the Broncos and Chargers game in San Diego. This was a hard game for the Broncos to play because they did not have their head coach, Gary Kubiak, calling the plays and the shots. Gary Kubiak was not coaching at this game because he was in the process of recuperating from surgery. With that being said this is one of the factors to why the Broncos lost this game.

The Broncos did have their starting quarterback, Trevor Siemian, back this week, and he had a okay performance. He threw for 230 yards and had a touchdown pass, which was better that Philip Rivers 178 yards and one touchdown pass, but it was not enough to get the job done. The player that really made a difference in this game was the Chargers' kicker, Josh Lambo. Lambo was able to kick four field goals to secure his team a win against this Broncos team. The Chargers' defense also came out to play in the second half where they were able get a safety in the fourth quarter, and this also helped the team make sure that they stayed ahead at the end of the game. This is a good way for the Chargers to try and come back and have a decent season with a winning record because the team has had a rocky start, and this is a good confidence booster. However, for the Broncos this was a disappointing loss, which continued a 2 game losing streak that hopefully the Broncos can get out of soon. The final score of the game was the Chargers winning by 13-21.

Here is a picture that shows a pass to Bennie Fowler from Trevor Siemian in this game.
