Week 8 Continued

Broncos and Chargers Game

The Denver Broncos and the San Diego Chargers faced each other again for the second time this year. The Broncos went into this game wanting a different outcome than what happened last time these two teams met a couple of weeks ago. This game came down to which team had the better defense because honestly neither offense really had a good showing in this game. This game was a perfect example of the saying that defenses win games/championships because it came down to a few key plays that Denver's defense made that made the difference in the game. Denver's defense intercepted Philip Rivers three times, and one of those interceptions was returned for a touchdown. It was this defensive touchdown by Bradley Roby that gave the Broncos' struggling offense some -momentum to rush for two touchdowns. The final score was Denver winning the game 27-19.

Here is a picture of Bradley Roby's interception in the game.

Week 7

Chargers and Raiders Games

In week 7 the Raiders played the Jacksonville Jaguars, and they did a good job bouncing back from their loss to the Chiefs last week. The Raiders were having success in every single area of play. They were rushing the ball well has a team they rushed/ran the ball for a total of 144 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Raiders also had success throwing the ball has well. Derek Carr completed 23 of 37 passes for 200 yards and one touchdown pass. However, it was not just the offense that had a good game because the defense came out to play this week. The Raiders defense did a great job stopping the Jaguars offense by getting two interceptions and one fumble. These three turnovers kept the Raiders offense on the field gaining momentum to get to the end zone. I would say that the player of the game would have to be Latavious Murray because he ran the ball for 59 yards and two touchdowns. The final score showed that the Raiders came to play and control the game. The final score was Raiders winning by 33-16.

Here is a picture of the two teams from the week.

In week 7 the Chargers were looking at continuing their winning streak from last week. They managed to do this in a tight game that went into overtime against the Atlanta Falcons. In this game the Chargers did a good job moving the football despite their offense turning the ball over two times. Philip Rivers threw the football for 371 yards, one touchdown pass, and one interception. The Chargers also managed to run the ball for only 78 yards and two touchdowns. The Chargers defense was mediocre, only getting one interception to help their offense out. It again came down to the Chargers' kicker, Josh Lambo because he kicked the winning field goal in overtime, which was a 42 yard field goal. This was a hard fought win for the Chargers, that continues their winning streak from last week. The final score was the Chargers winning 33-30.

Week 6 Continued

Broncos vs. Chargers

The other rivalry game this week in the division was the Broncos and Chargers game in San Diego. This was a hard game for the Broncos to play because they did not have their head coach, Gary Kubiak, calling the plays and the shots. Gary Kubiak was not coaching at this game because he was in the process of recuperating from surgery. With that being said this is one of the factors to why the Broncos lost this game.

The Broncos did have their starting quarterback, Trevor Siemian, back this week, and he had a okay performance. He threw for 230 yards and had a touchdown pass, which was better that Philip Rivers 178 yards and one touchdown pass, but it was not enough to get the job done. The player that really made a difference in this game was the Chargers' kicker, Josh Lambo. Lambo was able to kick four field goals to secure his team a win against this Broncos team. The Chargers' defense also came out to play in the second half where they were able get a safety in the fourth quarter, and this also helped the team make sure that they stayed ahead at the end of the game. This is a good way for the Chargers to try and come back and have a decent season with a winning record because the team has had a rocky start, and this is a good confidence booster. However, for the Broncos this was a disappointing loss, which continued a 2 game losing streak that hopefully the Broncos can get out of soon. The final score of the game was the Chargers winning by 13-21.

Here is a picture that shows a pass to Bennie Fowler from Trevor Siemian in this game.

Week 5

Chargers vs. Raiders

This game between the two rivals was a back and forth game. It was a close game all the way to the end. The team that walked away with the win was the team that was able to take advantage of turnovers and mistakes.

In this game neither team had much success running the football. Both teams combined only rushed the ball for 161 yards total. The game was back and forth with scoring. Every time one team scored the other team managed to move the ball down the field to score as well. The Chargers' quarterback, Philip Rivers, completed 21 passes out of 30 for a total of 359 passing yards. Rivers also threw four touchdown passes, and unfortunately he also threw two interceptions as well. One the Raiders side of the field their quarterback, Derek Carr, completed 25 passes out of 40 for a total of 317 passing yards. Carr also threw two touchdown passes and one interception. The main factor that was in this game was the defenses. The Raiders' defense came to win because not only were they able to get two interceptions but they also recovered one fumble as well. It is because the Raiders took advantage of these three turnovers that they won the game. The Raiders won the game 34-31.

Week 4

In the fourth week of the NFL, there were some more close games. One of these close games was the Raiders game. They played the Ravens in Baltimore, and the score was 28-27. This was a tremendous game for the Raiders' quarterback Derek Carr who had four touchdown passes in the game. It all came down to the fourth quarter to determine the winner. With only two minutes left in the game Carr through a touchdown pass to Michael Crabtree to give his team the lead winning the game.

The Chargers' game was also another close game, but it had a different outcome. The Chargers lost the game by one point. The score was 35-34. This is another game this week where it all came down to the fourth quarter when Drew Brees (Saints' quarterback) was able to throw two touchdown passes leading is team to a victory over the Chargers. The Chargers are having a rough year on offense because in this game their quarterback threw another interception. Even though their offense did not play well this game, their defense did a good job getting two interceptions this week. It was sad to see them lose this week seeing how well their defense played.

Week 3

In the third week of the NFL there were some more close and exciting games like the Raiders game. The Raiders game was against the Tennessee Titans. The Raiders won their game, and the final score was seventeen to ten. They won this game despite not scoring in the second half at all. It was surprising to only see Derek Carr throw one touchdown pass in the whole game for the Raiders. This week the main reason Oakland won was because their defense was able to get to interceptions, and keep the Titans' offense off the field. The Raiders defense looked really good this week.

Yet another close game, in a season that is proving to be close, nail-biting games the San Diego Chargers lost to the Indianapolis Colts. The final score was twenty-two to twenty-six. The only reason why the Chargers were even still in this game towards the end was because of their defense. Their defense got an interception, and returned a forced fumble sixty-one yards for a touchdown, this tied the score at halftime. At the end of the third quarter it was only a one point game. This game could have ended differently if Philip Rivers had at least one touchdown pass.

Overall, this is definitely turning out to be a close and interesting football season.

Week 2

The Raiders and Chargers Games

The San Diego Chargers were able to find their rhythm this week, as they faced off against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Chargers won thirty-eight to fourteen. A huge part of this win is due to the fact that Philip Rivers threw four touchdown passes in the game. This game was a huge success for the Chargers, especially coming of their loss last week to the Chiefs. Not only did Rivers throw four touchdown passes, but the Chargers' defense also found success against this Jaguar offense because they managed to walk away with two interceptions.

The Oakland Raiders had a harder week than the Chargers did, unfortunately. The Raiders played the Falcons this week, and the Falcons won thirty-five to twenty-eight. This was a close game, and it came down to the last minute. The game started with neither team scoring in the first quarter, so it looked like it would be a relatively slow and low-scoring game. It was not until the second quarter that the Falcons scored thirteen and the Raiders scored seven, that it became a interesting game. The game came down to the last couple of minutes because all that the Raiders needed was one touchdown to tie the game and send it to overtime, but the Falcons' defense was able to come up with a stop and clinch the win for their team. Both of these teams played really well. Both of the quarterbacks on both teams had three touchdown passes each, and the Raiders defense came away with an interception. This was one of the most stressful games of the week.

Week 1

Chiefs vs. Chargers

This game was an intense game. It started as what might be thought of as a blowout, and then the team behind came back to win it. These two teams are rivals in the same division, the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Diego Chargers, so these kinds of games are always intensified even more than normal games.

Kansas City started the game with possession of the football. The Chief's opening drive ended with a field goal. After that score in the first quarter, only the Chargers scored a touchdown in the first. when the second quarter came around, only the Chargers scored two touchdowns. At halftime the score was San Diego twenty-one and Kansas City three. In the third quarter the Chiefs scored a touchdown and held the Chargers at only a field goal for the entire quarter. In the final quarter the Chiefs came back from a seventeen point deficit to tie the score at twenty-seven to twenty-seven. The Chiefs scored seventeen points in the fourth quarter. This game went into overtime. The Chiefs started the overtime period with the ball, and they drove it all the way down the field for a touchdown. This in turn won the game.

This was an exciting game. It is always awesome to see a team that has been down the entire game come back from a huge deficit and win the game. This shows that anything can happen in the game of football.
